MHM loves comedian, radio host and television presenter, Tim Ross who became a household name as one half of comic duo ‘Merrick and Rosso’.  Rosso shares out love for architecture and we heard him talk a few years ago at The 50’s and 60’s House Symposium at the Museum of Sydney about his particular passion and concern for modernist homes.  He does have a serous side!

Rosso’s love of modernist architecture can be traced back to when he was a boy. He fondly remembers his parents taking him to see the French film, Mon Oncle, which had the most incredible modernist building in it.  Rosso now lives in his very own mid-century architecture classic in Hunters Hill. With only two owners before him, the house boasts all the best features of the ‘50s; the signature flat roof (which he admits leaks when it rains), kidney shaped pool, floor-to-ceiling windows, and red lino floors. Since buying the property in 2005, Tim has retrofitted ’50s-style light fittings and window latches, painted the doors in primary colours and added an impressive vintage furniture collection.

Ross has recently been bringing his two passions – comedy and architecture – together, in a stand-up series called ‘Man About The House’.  The concept invites small audiences into historic or iconic houses around Australia. The show has already had sell out seasons at Rose Seidler House (NSW), Walsh Street House (VIC), and numerous architecture festivals.  His up and coming tour to New Zealand has sold out but there is talk about a one night show in Brisbane later this year.  Click here to link to Tim Ross’s website for more details on his up and coming shows.
